Product Description:

Each 7-layer veneer set has 9 different pre-engraved template shapes that you can choose from.

Specially set up for teachers, the Multi-Pack 10 also includes the mini-curriculum and an extra set of veneer so that learning and preparation can be done before offering this project in a classroom.

Have students expand their creativity by customizing their own board by choosing their own shape and designing and painting their own graphics. The Multiboard kit allows more customization for the students than our other pre-shaped kits, giving them a personalized learning experience and outcome. Not only can students choose from 1 of 9 boards, but they can also make adjustments to the default shapes based on their own preferences.

(Wheels and trucks are not included)

The mini-curriculum included details how to set up a classroom ready for this project. It suggests what topics to teach and discuss before starting the class project. It also has a chart of other items that might be useful during the build sessions. The separate Multiboard Street Deck instructions show in illustrated detail, each step of the building and finishing process.

Ahead of time, (at least a few days before) learn the process first with the extra veneer set so that you are prepared before teaching the program.

Each student will roller on glue, lay up the veneer sheets and press their own skateboard inside a Thin Air Press vacuum bag.

There are 5 bags and molds included, and 10 sets of veneer and glue for the students. They share the use of the TAP bags after the drying time of 8 hours, so not all students will build their boards at once.

Use the focus of making a skateboard to get the attention of hard-to-engage students in an activity they are passionate about.

Or use the board building activity as a team building, mentorship, entrepreneurial, fundraising or outreach program, among many other possibilities.

The foam mold, Thin Air Press Bag and pump, edging tool and breather netting are designed to be used for many, many builds.

Keep all your reusable kit parts in good working order by following the maintenance tips included with the kit

Q: How long will it take to complete these boards?

A: The minimum length of time would be 6.5
hours + curing time (8 hours). And there really is no maximum length of time, as many teachers continue with the graphics part for an entire term. Lessons can be expanded up to 2 full terms.

Q: Do you offer discounts for teachers?

A: The Multi-Packs have bulk discounts built in, as if these items were purchased from our website, the cost would be higher.

Q: Can I get more veneer, glue and other supplies?

A: For schools and groups, we have an online or downloadable order form where your school or institution can order bulk supplies by issuing us a signed Purchase Order.

Q: What age is recommended for this program?

A: We recommend not younger than 10 years of age. Many younger students are eager, but their dexterity and skills are not quite enough to manage.

Q: What about applying the graphics?

A: Making a custom board is even more exciting if the students design and paint their own graphics. Involve the school’s art department if you are not comfortable with that aspect of the project, or a local visiting artist.

Q: What kind of graphics can be done?

A: We have had our best successes with student-grade acrylic paints and mylar hand-cut stencils. Spray paint, safely done outside or in a spray booth, and wood burning, work really well too. “Sharpie art” is fun, although any hand painting process is a one-chance process and is sometimes a surprise. Airbrushing, staining, marquetry and inlay techniques are all done successfully on hand made skateboards. There is no best answer to this question!

Q: Can the Thin Air Press make other things?

A: Yes! Furniture parts, marquetry projects, archery bows, sculptural pieces, really any bent or flat laminations work well in the Thin Air Press.

Q: What else do I need to complete this project?

A: A moisture protector is recommended (sponge on water-based outdoor clear coat) to seal all surfaces, especially your edges and before applying any graphics.

Included in the curriculum is a list of suggestions for setting up a classroom or other location with useful extras for teaching in a class environment.

Q: What if my school has a no-skateboarding policy?

A: The Roarockit Kits are all about building just the laminated wood part of a skateboard. As students build their very own board and can take enormous pride in creating custom graphics the boards very often are hung on a wall rather than being ridden right away. This provides the school the option to still enforce their policy, as the boards will not be actively used. Roarockit does not provide the wheels and trucks.

Q: Where do I get the wheels and trucks?

A: Roarockit supplies grip tape, but not hardware. We suggest involving your community by contacting a local skateboard shop (students are a great source for this information) and ask them to even come to speak to the class. Topics can be about safety, tuning, products and riding skills.

Use the guide holes on the bottom side to drill the truck holes through, using a 3/16” drill bit.

Always wear a helmet when riding!
