The Roarockit Skateboard Company first introduced TAP technology as a way to teach teens in Maui, Hawaii about wood working skills. Our patent-pending Thin Air Press (TAP) technology includes a heavy-duty vinyl vacuum bag, breather netting and a vacuum pump.
Students learn how to prepare wood veneers, apply glue to 7 layers of Hard Canadian Maple, insert into the TAP bag and use a hand vacuum pump to evacuate the air out of the bag. Atmospheric pressure quickly bends the layers into a 3-dimensional shape over the one-sided foam mold. When the glue is dry, the decks are removed from the bags, separated from the molds, the surfaces finished and the decks are ready for painting!
A class curriculum and an instructional video on CD are provided with our Teacher’s Street Deck or Long Board Kits. With these kits you can familiarize yourself with the building process and plan your program with the curriculum materials.
