when i was younger i thought it would be swell to be
a fashion designer, or maybe a hair designer and so
i diligently drew big bangs and fantastic frocks in
my sketchbook every day. somewhere along the way i
had an unfortunate experience with taffeta and instead
went to university in search of Very Important Art,
then got a job in a design firm doing Very Important
Branding Design. now, mostly what i like to do is tell
stories and create things that people will look at
and it will mean a lot to them and hopefully make them
happy. or perhaps very smart. or rich. and who’s
kidding who - it keeps me off the streets and i don’t
have to wait tables at hooters.
John Emrys' interests and appetites are diverse. He
enjoys hikes through rain forests in lousy weather,
pomegranets, organic beef, strawberry milkshakes and
unexposed film. He is the first to admit that the latter
two in combination often gives him gas.
He believes in the difference between perception and
perspective, and creating imagery that forces people
to make a link.
John has been involved in commercial photography for
over 20 years, earning many awards and clients ranging
from ScotiaBank to Playboy.
